A Day at the San Diego Zoo

Diego and I didn't do anything for our 18 month anniversary, so he finally took me to the San Diego Zoo. I'd been wanting to go there for the longest, and he was seriously lagging with the whole thing.

We woke up early and drove down to San Diego. By the time we got there, we were starving, and we stopped at Jack in the Box first. This sort of sucked, because we ended up losing like an hour of park time.

We went to see the hippo, but it was out of the water and sleeping in the corner of its enclosure. Later on, a guide told us that the hippo rarely comes out of the water and can be easily seen in its tank. Stupid hippo. It never gets out of the water, but for the 30 minutes we were trying to catch a glimpse.

I was really excited when the park announced the giraffe feeding. Diego and I walked like 3 miles (literally) around the park tryingn to find the giraffes. I think it was $5, and they only gave you 3 pieces of food (I think). There was a really small giraffe in the back that just couldn't get any of the biscuits. I felt really sorry for it, because the big giraffes were eating all the snacks. I wanted to reach over to the small one, but the big ones kept pushing and I was a bit intimidated anyways.

Most of the animals were sleeping all day and kept out of sight. The only animal that seemed to take any interest in my whatsover was the bearded pig of Borneo. Before I even got to the cage, we made eye contact, and the thing just trotted right over to the fence. The people who had been standing there for the longest were all like "wow! We couldn't get him to come over!" The pig must have recognized me as one of its family.

Diego and I went to see the polar bears, and we stayed in the area for almost half an hour. Unfortunately, there were absolutely no polar bears to be found. After we left, we trotted up to a hill, and lo and behold, there was a polar bear. Darn animals! They never do what you want them to do!

Even though Diego is scared of heights, I got him on the skyfari. He didn't completely enjoy the experience, but I still think it was worth it.
