A Different Saturday
I had to work this Saturday. Again. I'm regretting ever signing up for this weekend workshop. First, I don't think I'm doing a good job preparing the kids for the exit exam. Second, I hate having to wake up early on a Saturday. Since I've been going to church with my family on Sunday morning, I haven't had any days to sleep in at all. The whole thing is becoming a bit draining.
I haven't taken my car in for its service. It's at 35k, and my car is currently approachiing 37k. Diego says that I should be worried. He said that my engine will suddenly seize up, and my car won't be driveable. When I mentioned this to my kids, they got all upset too. One of my students said his sister did the same thing, and one of the pistons popped out and flew THROUGH the hood of the car. Ouch. That's not a good thing.
Diego offered to change my oil, so I finally accepted. First, I had to drop by the house of one of my students. I agreed to pick up some make-up work. See, I'm a dedicated teacher. See? I care about my students and their grades. Anyways, after doing that, we went to Diego's house. He said that the entire procedure would take maybe 30 minutes. The damn thing lasted over an hour. I think. Regardless, it was a long, long time. The main problem was the oil filter. It didn't have a grip, and his key didn't fit right. He just couldn't pry it off. That took the majority of the time spent on the change. He finally got if off, and things went smoothly from there. He ended up getting oil all over his arm and shirt though. Poor baby. Although he thoroughly washed, he still smells sort of funny. :) Unfortunately, we ended up putting in the wrong oil. The guy at the store said it was okay, but I'm still not sure. I made an appointment to do my service, but it was for the next day. When I told Diego, he seemed a bit crestfallen. All his efforts were to be for naught. So I canceled the appointment. I figured that I'll go in a week or two. Let his efforts stand for a little while longer.
It was already late by the time we finished. Afterwards, we drove up to Melrose. I told him I'd take him to a comic book store (Golden Apple) that he enjoys. He doesn't have much money right now, and he is not wanting to spend money on comics he wants. I told him I'd buy him some. It's a bribe though. He's going to help me call students next week to inform their parents of their grades and parent conference night. He ended up getting two "Walking Dead" graphic novels and the most recent Wolverine comic. Oh, we also at at Sanamluang. Mmmmmm. Haven't been there for a while.
