All Sorts of Madness and Mayhem -- well, not really, but some...
So my mom and I live in a condo. One day last last week, my mom came home, and the house was flooded! Like inches flooded. Apparently, a pipe broke in the place next door, and the water was somehow coming into our house. She tried to contact our neighbors, but no one was home. Finally, she contacted the homeowners association guy, who ended up breaking down the woman's door and turning off the water.
When she came home, she freaked and called the cops. She said no one could prove the water had come from her house (though it was previously gushing out, and when the water was turned off at her house, it stopped), that her property had been unnecessarily damaged, and that she was robbed (of all things -- rice!). The police came and took statements. They decided there was no case. The woman got even more upset and threatened to sue.
The next day, she came over with flowers and apologies. She said that she would replace the carpet (only -- not the kitchen floor and not the stairs), but she wanted it done right away. My mom said okay, and they went and bought carpet. My mom had to pay for the stairs, so they would match (which seems like the woman's responsibility, since it was her house that flooded ours), and ended up ordering an additional 1600 of sandstone tile to be installed. I think my mom is ridiculous. However, it's her house, so what can I do?
After this, though, she was told that her walls might be damaged with mold. When she mentioned this to the woman, the lady told her that she was ridiculous and that she wouldn't pay for that.
There's all this other drama which involves the carpet guy and my family and another threat of a lawsuit, but I don't feel like relating all of that drama today.
My mom called the woman yesterday, in order to speak with her about the walls. They already removed the carpet and furniture, so our house is like a warehouse. However, it is an ugly, smelly warehouse. The floor is covered in moss, and it looks like cotton balls all over the floor. Just recently, the walls (where the water line was) are now covered in green moldy spot. Aargh. The woman said she'd come over to talk, but my mom waited almost all day. Finally, my grandma took her out to eat. When my mom called the woman to tell her that she'd be stepping out, the woman said, "that's fine. I don't want to talk to you anyways. I'm tired of talking to you. Do whatever you have to do." And then she hung up.
